Capacity Building is a core function of SHSRC, aimed at strengthening the knowledge, skills, and competencies of Health care worker and Medical officers in the Public health Department across Maharashtra. Through a structured and ongoing approach, SHSRC organizes a wide range of learning platforms including webinars, workshops, hands-on training sessions, and interactive forums. These initiatives focus on clinical topics, administrative processes, public health policies, and program implementation strategies. By collaborating with experts from medical colleges, national institutions, and government departments, SHSRC ensures the dissemination of updated guidelines, protocols, and best practices. The goal is to enhance the effectiveness of service delivery and promote evidence-based decision-making across the health system.
Technical and Administrative Webinar for CHO
SHSRC conducts monthly webinars for Community Health Officers (CHOs) to strengthen their clinical and administrative skills. These sessions cover a range of topics including maternal and child health, disease surveillance, immunization, and health program implementation. The webinars also serve as a platform to address field-level challenges, promote case-based learning, and enhance the CHOs’ role as team leaders at Health and Wellness Centres.
a) Clinical Webinar
is inhouse monthly activity for capacity building and refreshing clinical knowledge with recent updates for medical officers across Maharashtra. Activity Started from December 2022 with renowned speakers from medical colleges , subject experts and health professionals.
Clinical webinar got accreditation from Maharashtra Medical council resulting a credit score addition for medical officers.
In FY 2024-25, 17 Clinical webinars have been conducted successfully for Medical Officers.
b) CHO Webinar:
The Community Health Officer (CHO) Webinar Series is a refresher capacity-building initiative of SHSRC conducted to strengthen the clinical, public health, and administrative competencies of CHOs working at Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (Health and Wellness Centres) across Maharashtra. These webinars are organised every month, providing structured and continuous learning support to CHOs.
The webinar series follows a modular approach aligned with the 13 service packages delivered at Health and Wellness Centres, covering key areas such as maternal and child health, communicable and non-communicable diseases, immunization, nutrition, disease surveillance, record keeping, and national health programmes. Sessions are designed to address field-level challenges, promote case-based discussions, and reinforce the role of CHOs as team leaders in primary healthcare delivery.
During the financial year 2024–25 (April 2024 to March 2025), a total of 12 CHO webinars were successfully conducted. The webinars are conducted by senior public health officials, subject experts, and experienced clinicians from state and national institutions. This continuous learning initiative has contributed significantly to improving the quality and effectiveness of services delivered at the community level.
c) Administrative Webinar (In-house activity)
The Administrative Webinar Series is an in-house capacity-building initiative of SHSRC designed to enhance understanding of administrative, financial, and establishment-related processes among PHC Medical Officers, Medical Superintendent and relevant administrative staff. These webinars aim to improve day-to-day administrative efficiency and ensure compliance with government rules and procedures.
the financial year 2024–25, a total of 14 Administrative Webinars were conducted between July 2023 and September 2024, covering a wide range of topics such as service rules, establishment matters, leave rules, pension procedures, NHM finance, income tax provisions, procurement through GeM Portal and e-tendering, record keeping, E- Aushadhi, and condemnation procedures. The sessions were facilitated by senior administrative officers, treasury officials, finance experts, and subject specialists from state and national institutions.
The Administrative Webinars are conducted once every month and serve as an important platform for clarifying rules, addressing practical administrative challenges, and promoting uniform understanding of procedures across the public health system. This initiative has contributed to improved administrative decision-making, transparency, and effective governance within the Public Health Department.
a) Monthly ASHA questionnaire-based assessment
To support continuous learning and performance enhancement of Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs). Monthly capacity-building initiative integrated within PHC-level meetings, typically held in the last week of each month. A specially designed questionnaire-based assessment is conducted during these meetings to reinforce key knowledge areas related to maternal and child health, communicable diseases, and public health programs. The top-performing ASHAs from each district are recognized and their names are published in the Arogya Patrika, as part of motivation.
b) ASHA Diary
SHSRC has played a key role in developing monitoring formats and supporting tools such as the ASHA Diary, which facilitates daily record-keeping and better reporting of field activities. This diary acts as a job aid for ASHAs and contributes to improved program monitoring and data accuracy. Regular feedback collected from the field is used to refine both the questionnaire content and monitoring formats, ensuring relevance and practical application.
a) TOT Workshop on Basic Life Support (BLS) & Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
The Training of Trainers (TOT) workshop was organized in collaboration with Symbiosis Centre for Health Skills (SCHS), Lavale, Pune, a recognized International Training Centre (ITC) of the American Heart Association (AHA), USA.
Objective:
The workshop aimed to equip trainers with essential knowledge and practical skills required to manage a wide range of medical emergencies, even in resource-constrained settings. These trained professionals will further train frontline healthcare providers such as MOs, Staff Nurses, ANMs, and others.
Workshop Details:
40 Medical officers from SIHFW, HFWTC, DTT & HTT were part of Three-day capacity building workshop. A letter has been issued to the Director, SIHFW, Nagpur to initiate further training at each Health and Family Welfare Training Centre (HFWTC).
b) MIS Capacity Building Workshop
SHSRC organizes MIS Capacity Building Workshops to strengthen the data handling and analysis skills .These workshops cover essential topics such as basic and advanced MS Excel, HMIS tool, and techniques for data analysis and visualization to support monitoring and evaluation activities of district and State. By enhancing technical skills and promoting data-driven decision-making, these workshops play a vital role in improving the quality and use of health data at all district and State levels.
Objective:
To strengthen the capacity of data professionals in accurate data handling, analysis, and reporting. This training is expected to improve the efficiency and precision of data-driven decision-making in health systems.
Workshop Details:
45 participants (Monitoring & Evaluation Offices, including Statistical Officers (SO), Statistical Investigators (SI), and Statistical Assistants (SA)) were trained in two-day workshop. This workshop was consecutively conducted for two years (23-24 & 24-25)

The workshop was organized in collaboration with CTARA, IIT Mumbai.
c) Research Methodology Workshop
Objective:
aimed to build research capacity among key public health personnel involved in program implementation and evaluation. Foundational concepts of public health research, including study design, data collection, analysis, and report writing are components of this workshop.. By equipping health officials with practical research skills, the workshop encourage evidence-based planning, improved documentation of field experiences, and promote a culture of analytical thinking within the public health system.

20 Participants (Medical Officers from HFWTCs, Principals, DRCHOs, ADHOs, ACSs, faculty from SIHFW, and other senior officials) for each workshop were trained in research methodology. Total 3 workshop conducted. (Nagpur, Pune & Nashik)

B. Cervical cancer and VIA Screening
In collaboration with TATA Memorial Cancer Centre, Mumbai a pilot project of interactive Modular leaning activity started for Nandurbar District. This Project will help in strengthening cervical cancer screening efforts.
